The $99 solution
Chip's fish and brew (Chip's) is a funky little beach-side watering hole in Santa Monica. By day it is known as the place to go for the Coast's best fish and chips. By night it is known for it's eclectic live music.
Chip's is the brainchild of Chip Bremner who leads a staff of three as your host and head chef. Chip's has become a fixture in the community. If you want to know what's happening in town, head down to Chip's they say. Plus, Chip's location by the pier makes it a popular magnet for tourists and visitors to the area. And that's why a tasteful screen display was a perfect fit. Chip saw that, using a ScreenScape-enabled screen display, he could have some fun and become his own little media-franchise in the process. He could pull his own videos from YouTube. He could post about his specials, about local events in the region and have some fun with his staff.
Here's where it gets interesting. Chip got all set up for less than a hundred bucks. He already had an Internet connection. He just took a 5-year old computer from home, made sure it had an up-to-date web browser, and went out and bought a 19" monitor for $99. The monitor looked great in the corner and no one in the small room had any difficulty seeing it. It seemed like people never failed to look at it when they were cashing out.
Now Chip is looking into joining some marketing programs in hopes of making a few bucks selling ad spaces. At this rate Chip's might soon have a new screen for its back room.
