The Byrdhouse Inn
Roger and Gail Byrd are the retired proprietors of The Byrdhouse Inn in Hartsville, Georgia. Roger uses a ScreenScape-powered screen display in the lobby of their stately Queen Anne Revival mansion as a way of offering valuable tourism information to his guests.
"This service does more for us than a rack of tourism leaflets could ever do. It costs less, it's better for the environment, and the content can be updated dynamically."
Roger started out by using ScreenScape to create his own fully branded screen display to do a number of things. The screen shows off pictures of the beautiful sites in the region (and a few of the many happy guests they've hosted). It highlights the historical significance of the region and features key messages such as dining room specials and check-out times.
Simple networking
But that was just a start. Roger spearheaded a simple content service that was eventually adopted by others in the area and promoted by the Hartsville & Area Tourism Association as the Hartsville & Area Tourism Network (HTN). HTN uses ScreenScape to coordinate contributions by its members to provide content for what is now a network of screen displays installed by tourism operators in the area. As a member of ScreenScape, all any tourism operator had to do to start using the service was install a simple screen, plug in a network-connected computer, and browse to ScreenScape where they could subscribe to the HTN feed.
