Two new ways to experience ScreenScape

We wouldn't ask you to join the community without first showing you what it's all about. So this week we rolled out two new ways to experience ScreenScape before joining.

ScreenScape for Corporate Communications

ScreenScape's private beta testing phase has been helpful in more ways than one.    Among other things it has shown to us the broad range of applications our service has.    ScreenScape is already being used in dozens of unique ways.    An interesting example is that of corporate communications.  A number of businesses, both large and small, have chosen to use ScreenScape as a powerful company message board.  They see its ability to inform, educate and entertain employees, combined with its ease-of-use and flexible deployment options, as the right combination to roll out a back-office communication system.

CanTrust Financial Services

Let's take the fictitious CanTrust Financial Services (CanTrust) as an example.   Imagine that CanTrust is a regional provider of a suite of financial services with 400 employees spread across twelve venues.  They've used ScreenScape to power a number of displays at their headquarters and on location at their field offices to create a tasteful, professional corporate communications infrastructure.

Keeping each member of a 400 person team in coordination and well informed of the latest in corporate policy and procedure is not an easy thing.   The financial services business is ever changing and having access to the latest and most accurate company information is nothing short of a strategic weapon.   Where operator-driven computer terminals are primary means for giving employees a means to conduct business, display screens are a much more appropriate way to communicate reminders, policy changes, rewards, and staff events.

ScreenScape for Campus Media

It's exciting to see some of our members using ScreenScape to power their own independent media networks.    For a variety of reasons ScreenScape is ideal for this kind of thing.   This post explores the potential of ScreenScape as a campus media platform in particular.

Among other things ScreenScape makes it easy and affordable to create dynamic digital signage displays.  It's so easy to build a powerful screen display that you can create a new one, or completely change one in a matter of ten minutes. This along with a host of features makes ScreenScape an excellent choice for event planners and the entire hospitality industry.

ScreenScape let's you choose and at any time change the style, color, and the logo of a display to reflect an entirely new brand - a new event for example. Changing up the programming of your display is just as easy. Because ScreenScape is community-based members of the ScreenScape Network represent a channel - a world of venues and their displays which cater to targeted audiences both in your community and around the globe. Solstice Jazz & Blues Festival

Figure 1 illustrates the presence of Solstice Jazz & Blues Festival on ScreenScape. Seven officially sanctioned venues are using ScreenScape to coordinate site logistics, to communicate daily performance schedules, and also to recognize sponsors.  ScreenScape provides Solstice a means to communicate key messages accurately and on a timely basis. The professionalism of the displays has enhanced the event brand substantially and the new platform for sponsorship recognition has allowed them to add a new level of platinum sponsorship which is new revenue for the event.

Interestingly, local bars like Nightcap Sports Bar are also indirectly participating through the ScreenScape Community. The audience at Nightcap is an audience of Blues fans. By agreeing to promote the event and its schedule to its patrons Nightcap has been helping to drive attendance at the core Solstice events.

Tips for Using ScreenScape at your next Event

1. Event planners - sign up for ScreenScape. Register for an account at screenscape.net and start building your first display.
   
2. Build your network. Encourage venues to sign up for ScreenScape and build their own screen display. The two best kinds of venues are a) those venues in the close vicinity of where the event is taking place and b) those venues which have an audience that matches your typical attendee.
   
3. Develop a promotion. Using your ScreenScape account develop a promotional campaign for distributing through the ScreenScape Community. Use text slides, digital posters, News feeds, or Web Video.
4. Ask members in your network to subscribe to your content. Communicate with like-minded venues and ask them to subscribe to your promotional campaign.
   
5. Inform your attendees how to contribute their content. Members of ScreenScape can create content using their existing account.  By putting a video on YouTube event planners can quickly get onto their displays.
   
6. At event time replace your promotional material with timely relevent content about your event. Watch as updates flow toward all the venues in your network!

Place-based Media 2.0

What is place-based media anyway? When I think of the term "place-based media" I think of two things. I think of the enormous power that place - a locale, a site, an environment - has in the marketing process. And I think of how severely limited place-media is without an element of true community.

Place-based media is neither a new term nor a new concept and yet it's meaning has never been more in flux. In simplistic terms we often define place-based media as the placement of media in public places, from hotel lobby's to doctor's offices, where certain types of people congregate at a certain time. There has been a place-based media industry for quite some time with company's like Broadsign, Capital Networks, and more recently EK3 leading the way. If this is place-based media - with these being the prototypical cases - it must certainly mean that place-based media is native to the broadcasting age where media is centrally created and controlled, closed to collaboration and downright expensive. But is this really all there is to place-based media?
