The Gift Emporium
The Gift Emporium (GE) sells gifts and convenience items. Its two outlets are both located in the Greater Pawtucket Airport, with a main site in the retail wing of the airport and a second booth in the departure lounge. With a lot of hard work proprietors Hal and Judy Ching have been able to stay competitive with the larger chains that also have retail stores at the airport. One of the biggest reasons they have stayed so competitive is their knack for merchandising.
Judy knows what the business traveler tends to look for in a gift. Hal is keen on staying up with every latest craze and uses his knowledge of import markets to anticipate new opportunities in consumer trends. They often joke that Beanie Babies™ alone have put their two kids through college.
Recommended by a friend it was Hal who decided to give ScreenScape a try in their main site. For $9.99 the Chings thought 'what the heck'. They used a 5-year old computer and 19" widescreen LCD display screen which they bought online for less than a hundred dollars.
Hal enjoyed the process of creating his own fully branded Gift Emporium screen display. He uploaded an existing powerpoint™ presentation that articulated his sales policies and listed the major categories of goods they offered. To spice it up he subscribed to some select third-party content, mostly tourism photos of the Pawtucket area. In no time at all he had developed an elegant yet captivating display. From time-to-time when an item was becoming particularly hot, like Beanie Babies were in the 1990s, Hal would post an original slide that helped to make sure his patrons knew that he carried the product. And when he wanted to sell off excess inventory he used the service to advertise his discounts and on sale merchandise.
The system worked well and because there are no limits to the number of screens on which the same display can run Hal and Judy decided to install two new screens, a second one in their main site and one for their booth, which all run the same display. Now they are using the service to realize synergies between the two stores.
