The Overlook Hotel
The busy comings and goings of guests in the hotel lobby of the Overlook Hotel (OH) is typical of most hotels. People on their way our for an expedition, on their way to a meeting, or off to the airport. A hotel lobby is at once a place to gather and major intersection. And that is why the Overlook Hotel has used a screen-based information display for some time.
The Overlook Hotel heard about ScreenScape from a few local venues, mostly restaurants and tourist operations, who were already using the service and were inquiring about the possibility of using the Overlook's screen display to send promotional offers directly to their guests.
Low cost, Easy to use
Until ScreenScape came along the Management of Overlook had no easy option for opening up their screens. Until then their screens were effectively closed systems offering static content that had to be painstakingly prepared by professional IT people. The idea of making it easy for staff or partners to get content up on the screens had come up before but it took ScreenScape, which offered a low-cost and easy-to-use solution, for it to finally happen.
The Management of Overlook started using ScreenScape, opening their screens to local staff and embracing dynamic content from the Internet - yet still presented under the familiar branding of Overlook colors and symbols. The timeliness and diversity of content on the system improved over night. They used simple web feeds to pull in news, sports and weather information on a timely basis. They used a simple web-page widget to periodically show the local airports' latest arrivals and departures page. And they used their own original slides to provide custom content whenever they felt the urge.
Revenue
It didn't take long before they were doing just as those local venues had suggested. They began selling screen space. The openness of the system provided their guests with a valuable service and the extra revenue didn't hurt either.
